The University of Hawai'i is gearing up for an exciting 2026 women's volleyball season with a powerful lineup! Two talented transfers are set to make a big impact, bringing a wealth of experience and skill to the Rainbow Wahine.
Coach Robyn Ah Mow has welcomed Maëli Cormier and Panna Ratkai, both formidable pin hitters, to the team. Cormier, a 6'2" opposite/outside hitter, had an impressive freshman year at Oregon State, earning a spot on the West Coast Conference's All-Freshman Team. She showcased her talent with an average of 2.63 kills per set and a season-high of 20 kills in a thrilling five-set victory over Saint Mary's. But here's where it gets interesting: Cormier also has international experience, having represented Canada's U-21 team at the 2024 NORCECA Continental Championship, where she led the team in kills.
And then there's Ratkai, a 5'10" outside hitter who dominated at Purdue Fort Wayne, earning Horizon League Offensive Player of the Year honors twice. She redshirted in 2022 but returned with a bang, racking up 1,048 kills and an impressive 4.62 kills per set average. She also made her mark on the national stage, being named an AVCA All-America Honorable Mention in 2024. But the story doesn't end there; Ratkai also played for the Hungarian National Team, adding further international flair to the Rainbow Wahine.
"Maëli and Panna bring a level of maturity and competitiveness that will elevate our team culture from day one," said Coach Ah Mow. And this is the part most people miss—the impact of these transfers goes beyond the court. Their experience and leadership will be invaluable in guiding the team's dynamic and fostering a winning mentality.
The 2026 signing class also includes incoming freshmen Cameron Holcomb and Rachel Purser, adding depth to the team's lineup. With these additions, the Rainbow Wahine are poised to make a statement in the upcoming season, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the start of spring training.
But will these transfers be enough to propel the Rainbow Wahine to new heights? Only time will tell. What's your take on the team's prospects for the 2026 season? Share your thoughts and predictions in the comments below!
