In 2025, the Eagles' defense faced a daunting task: filling the gaps left by a 2024 unit that dominated the NFL, ranking first and leading Philadelphia to an impressive 16 wins out of 17 games, culminating in a Super Bowl victory. Fangio, known for his honesty and coaching prowess, addressed these challenges head-on.
"Last year, we had a similar situation," Fangio shared at a press conference in June. "We had a lot of turnover, and many unknowns. Players like Zack Baun, Nakobe Dean, and Oren Burks were unproven. We had just signed Isaiah Rodgers and Moro Ojomo, and Nolan Smith and C.J. Gardner-Johnson were returning from injuries. This year, we have a new set of names to watch: Kelee Ringo, Adoree' Jackson, Sydney Brown, and more. I'm hoping for the same results from these fresh faces."
Fast forward to now, and Fangio's vision has largely materialized. The Eagles' defense has consistently improved, and they head into the final stretch of the season with confidence and impressive stats to back it up. They're allowing just 19.3 points per game, ranking third in the NFL, and their pass defense is seventh, with an impressive 55.9% completion rate against them. Four players, including tackle Jalen Carter and cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, have been selected for the Pro Bowl Games.
