South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers is on the verge of returning to the program for the 2026 season, with talks moving toward a finalized agreement, according to sources shared with ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Sellers has told his coaches he plans to come back for his redshirt junior year, and both sides are optimistic they’ll lock in a deal shortly.
Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 245 pounds, the 2026 NFL draft projections place Sellers as a top-10 quarterback prospect in Mel Kiper’s rankings. If he explores a transfer during the January 2 portal window, he could attract considerable interest from multiple programs.
In his three seasons with the Gamecocks, Sellers has accumulated 5,057 passing yards, 33 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions, in addition to 995 rushing yards and 13 rushing scores. He started for two seasons and delivered a standout 2024 campaign, earning Freshman Offensive Player of the Year honors from the FWAA and third-team All-SEC recognition as he helped South Carolina post a nine-win season and finish 19th in the AP Top 25.
The 2025 campaign was more challenging for Sellers and the program, with a 4-8 record as the Gamecocks began the season ranked No. 13 in the preseason AP poll. Offensively, South Carolina ranked 104th nationally in scoring, and Sellers’ efficiency rating (QBR) ranked 13th among SEC starters at 61.5 after a 1-7 run in conference play.
Following the season, South Carolina coach Shane Beamer initiated major staff changes on offense. He brought in Kendal Briles as the new offensive coordinator from TCU, along with Randy Clements, also from TCU, as offensive line coach, and Stan Drayton of Penn State serving as assistant head coach and running backs coach.
